What is climate change?

Climate change is an important matter, not to mistake with global warming. It’s two very different concepts. The main idea to keep in mind is that global warming is causing climate change.

Over the years, and since human activity has been growing, the climate has been changing too. To understand how and what has been changed, it’s important to understand what is global warming, how does it affects the climate and environment.

What is global warming and the greenhouse effect?

Global warming is an increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. It’s generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants. The greenhouse effect is a natural process by which the atmosphere retains of the heat of the Sun. It allows the Earth to maintain the necessary conditions to host life. Without it, the temperature on Earth would be around -18°C.
But, how does the greenhouse effect, which permits life, can now threaten the climate to change ?

The answer is human activities.

Some studies has been made to analize the rise of temperature and some natural factors (like the Sun, volcanos,..) and human factors to determine which factors was causing this. It appears that human factors, are causing a rising concentration of greenhouse effect, which cause the global warming. Greenhouse effect makes Earth much warmer than it would be without an atmosphere. Since 1951 to 2010, it has been observed that more than alf the observed increase of global surface temperature is due to Human Activity. The probability being hold between 95% to 100%.

More than 40 different types of greenhouse gaze. The 6 main greenhouse gaze are :
– Carbon Dioxyde (CO2)
– Methane (CH4)
– Nitrous oxide (N2O)
– Ozone (03)
– Carbon Monoxide (CO)
– Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)
– Sulfure dioxide (SO2)

All those gases from human activity create an bigger “couche autour de la terre” which maintains the temperature and make it rise. Scientists predicts that the Earth should take between 3 to 5 degrees by year 2100.

Here are some human activities which causes the greenhouse effect to rise :
– Consuming electricity
– Transportation
– Building
– Deforestation

Is climate change really happening ?

Climate change is the greatest environmental threat humanity has ever faced and the biggest challenge. We write a slightly above that earth could take up to 5°C in about 80 years. This is the same degrees the temperature has rised in 10 000 years.
We’ve been observing changes over the 20th century include increases in global average air and ocean temperature, rising global sea levels, animals changing their behavior and localisation, plastic pollution increasing and changes in the temperature which causes nature to die, ice melting way faster than expected, forest burning due to the sun and the heat, ocean acidification… .
No one knows how much warming is “safe” but we know that climate change is already harming people and ecosystems around the globe.
This year, so many events happened showing how much climate was changing, on the entire surface of the Earth. Human activity is not declining, and emissions seems to rise year after year.
Our own activity is causing damages which will soon be irreversible. Earth will no longer be a favorable planet to live on for humans, animals, nature, if humanity doesn’t change.
